What Trolls taught me about Happiness

Image
Image source: Trolls, Dreamworks animation  The movie depicts three distinct personalities with different perspectives on happiness-  The positive and Happy colourful Trolls who are happy singing, dancing and hugging all day. The unhappy and miserable Bergens who perceive the only way to be happy was to eat trolls.  The negative and grumpy Branch who is cynical and against being happy.      1. Happiness is not something you seek from outside, it's inside you. The story brings us on the journey of how Poppy, the happy Troll, help Branch and the Bergens find happiness. She believes that happiness is found within all of them and everyone deserve happiness. The Bergens found happiness when they start to seek it internally rather than from externally (eating the Trolls).  Branch found happiness when he started to shift his perspective from a negative to a more positive one.  The mindset of Poppy believing that everyone deserve happiness (even the ...

What Kungfu Panda taught me about Inner Peace

Image
Image soures are from the movie: Kungfu Panda by Dreamworks Animation  I recently rewatched one of my favourite animation movie- Kungfu Panda- a 2008 movie by Dreamworks Animation. Besides loving the cheerful and positive personality of the main character Po, and his adorable appearance, Kungfu Panda has taught me important lessons in life on achieving inner peace. Learning to Let Go 1. Let Go of the need for control   On two occasions, Master Oogway has imparted his wisdom of "letting go" to both Master Shifu and Po separately. Master Shifu was worried about the return of villain, Tai Lung and how bad things will become. Po was worried about not being good enough in becoming the dragon warrior and wanted to give up. On both occasions, Master Oogway taught the characters to let go of the need to control how things should be and how things might become.   Indeed, life is filled with uncertainty. It's only when we learn to let go of regretting the past...

[Movie Review]: Tiong Bahru Social Club

Image
Source: Golden Village   The movie tells the story of a young man, named Ah Bee who is in pursuit of his happiness. He quits his job and left home at aged 30, taking on a new job as a Happiness Agent at Tiong Bahru Social Club, where he will be living his new life. At Tiong Bahru Social Club, they promise a happy neighbourhood with specialised programs and dedicated "Happiness Agents" to look after your needs. It sounds like a really cool and great idea- "A Neighbourhood which focuses on Happiness". But is the idea really feasible?   Throughout the movie, the concept of happiness is highlighted with a few food for thoughts: 1. Can Happiness be measured? At Tiong Bahru Social Club, the happiness of its members and Agents are measured through Artificial Intelligence. They are then ranked daily by their happiness level and contribution level. This is when happiness became a job's KPI . The happiness agents have to be on their toes to keep within the ranks or ris...

[Movie Review]: Soul by Disney Pixar

Image
Source: Shaw.sg SOUL searching with Disney Pixar- I went in the movie theatre expecting to watch a movie that inspires us to follow our hearts and find our passion, while portraying how the character "got lost" in his passion- music.  To my surprise, this movie does just the opposite.   Joe Gardner is an aspiring Jazz musician who works as a middle school band teacher. He was unhappy in his job as he believes he was born to perform and dreams of an opportunity to land a high-profile gig. When the opportunity finally comes, Joe accidentally fell into a manhole and lands himself in the "The Great Beyond" where dead souls line up. Not wanting to go just like that, Joe tried to escape and finds himself in "The Great Before" where unborn souls gathered and are mentored to discover their "spark" so that they can be lead productive, happier lives when they go to Earth. He then later became the mentor of an unborn soul named "22". Throughout ...
